Who hasn't dreamed of sleeping in a castle? In Costa Brava, Spain's rugged coast north of Barcelona, you can. Castell d'Emporda is a 14th-century castle that's been converted into a hotel and restaurant.
The castle was once a mighty fortress in the region, but it fell into disrepair over the centuries. Salvador Dalí tried to purchase the castle for his wife Gala in the 1970s, but the owner refused his barter offer of art instead of cash.
Today, Castell d'Emporda is surrounded by olive groves and a vast expanse of farmland. From its perch atop a hill, you can see tiny hamlets and gorgeous scenery in all directions. If sleeping in a castle is on your bucket list, Castell d'Emporda is a great place to check that item off!
