Casse Croute Bakery

50 South Livermore Avenue

Before an afternoon full of wine tasting in the Livermore Valley wine country, I was looking for a quick but tasty stop for lunch. When I travel, I always seek out small, family-owned establishments, and fortunately Casse-Croute Bakery was just what I was looking for. The small but pleasant bakery has large, inviting tables inside and plenty of tables with heaters and blankets outside. The interior display case is filled with petit fours, croissants, tartlets, quiche, cookies, and more. The daily menu also includes sandwiches and soups. We opted for several pastries and a tuna salad sandwich, and it was the best tuna sandwich I’ve ever had--light, flavorful, and on fresh, perfectly baked baguette. The apple tarlet and chocolate chip cookie also showed the skill of the bakery’s French owner.
