Ah, a lovely French bistro on Bermondsey Street. Settle down into comfy red leather banquettes, soak in the fabulous French playlist and peruse the old family photos on the wall while you wait for one of the charming staff members to take your drinks order (strictly French wines, of course!).
Owner Herve Durochat bustles among the tables, greeting customers and explaining the classic and excellent French menu. Couples lounge in the sun at the tiny tables just outside the door. A group of friends while away the afternoon around a large table near the bar, sharing endless bottles of good French wine. I sit and watch and wish I paid more attention to Madame in French class so Herve didn't have to translate the menu.
I'm hooked and check my phone for rental listings in Bermondsey. Ah, to be just around the corner from this lovely, little cafe. The intimate vibe and genuine warmth of Casse-Croute draw you in, but the excellent food and lovely wine list will keep you coming back.
