At a cool 64 degrees year round, the Cascade Caverns in Boerne provide a perfect place to escape the heat of the Texas summer. These are living caverns, continuing to expand through the effect of erosion. Situated on 105 acres of land, you can bring a picnic to enjoy before taking the 45-minute guided tour or exploring the above ground nature trails. Inside the caves, a unique species of salamander was discovered, as well as the bones and remains of a saber-toothed tiger, a mastodon, and other remains and Indian artifacts—some of which have been sent to the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
