It's hard to believe that not long ago, Casa Lecanda was a structure so neglected, that the current owners weren't quite sure that they could even save it. Still, they met with architects and local craftsmen, and in 2009 began to restore the grand dame slowly, step by step, to her former glory.
It wasn't the hotel we stayed at, but I had breakfast there, and took a good peak around the property afterwards. Casa Lecanda has seven guest rooms, each uniquely decorated, with original clay tile floors. The hotel is oriented towards the lush interior gardens, patios and courtyards and I can just imagine how beautiful a place it is to steal an afternoon nap in one of the hammocks, between excursions.
Casa Lecanda has a beautiful kitchen, where cooking classes are offered with local celebrity chef and recent top chef Mexico contender Christian Bravo.
Cooking Class with David Bravo: $188 USD/ per person (at time of publishing) please call for more info: +52 999 928 0112
