Ride under the tall trees in Uruguay's Napa Valley
This may be one of the most picturesque stretches of road I've seen. Dramatic stands of soaring eucalyptus trees line the road along the vineyards outside Carmelo -- Uruguay's top wine region. Lots of great vineyards, excellent wines, (especially Tannat, a grape you rarely find outside of Uruguay) and several outstanding hotels, like the Narbona Wine Lodge and the Four Seasons Carmelo. Sit back and relax like the lazy flowing brown water of the nearby Rio de la Plata. You an shoot across the ferry from Buenos Aires via Colonia, about 1/2 hour away. Skip the over-promised Colonia and head up the road to mellow Carmelo.
