Founded in 2010, Carakale is Jordan's first and only family-owned microbrewery. It began as a labor of love for master brewer Yazan Karadsheh, who has grown production from his family’s backyard to a hillside location by the old city of Fuheis. It’s well worth a visit for tastings and tours, which are held on select evenings for groups of six or more—nicely timed so that you can also soak up the gorgeous sunsets. The name Carakale comes from a combination of 'caracal', a species of desert cat native to Jordan's southern deserts, and 'ale,' their yeast type. Beer brewing began in the Middle East, and Yazan is doing his best to bring it back to its roots.
