During the summer in Florence, there is nothing better to cool off with than a couple scoops of Gelato or a cup of icy granita. The best of them are made with all-natural ingredients and made on-site. In my opinion, the standout of them all is Carabè. A half a block from the Accademia (home of Michelangelo’s David), this unassuming gelateria features mostly Sicilian flavors such as Spirito di Siciliano (Sicilian Soul) which is made of orange, lemon, and tangerine gelati…perfectly refreshing in its citrusy mix. Another favorite is the Sicilian breakfast tradition of coffee granita with whipped cream. Now that’s the way to start a day! If you’ve had your fill of gelati, try a home-made cannolo (yes, the singular of cannoli is cannolo) and take it for a stroll around the Duomo. Just make sure you remember where Carabè is so you can return again and again!
