Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway
Caps off to this Night Sky
Any stargazer headed to the Panhandle Plains to Copper Breaks State Park (the, as it were, shining star of Texas state parks when it comes to preserving and promoting their dark sky) should also stop by the nearby Caprock Canyons State Park (a two-hour drive west from Copper Breaks). The park is most famous for its resident herd of bison (reintroduced in 2014) and its dramatic red rock landscape, but it is also among the darkest parks in the Texas park system. The backpack-in campsites are perfect for those in search of solitude and silence under the stars.
