Cappadocia, Turkey with American HeroesMy name is Matt Haycock (left) and I'm with my two best travel buddies Rob (center) and Ashley (right). I don't get to see my friends very often as they are stationed in Germany with the military. Both Rob and Ashley have spent time deployed at war and have both suffered injuries during battle due to their incredibly dangerous job titles. Although the military is hazardous, it does allow them to travel the world for work.
We try to get at least one trip together every year. In 2012 we decided we wanted to go to a beautiful and remote place that was unlike any other, Cappadocia, Turkey.
Cappadocia is an ancient cave city in Turkey and is known as the hot-air balloon capital of the world. The entire city is made of burrowed caves in volcanic mountain sides and other rock formations. Your hotel is a cave (they have amenities like shower, bathroom, beds, etc.), the bar is a cave, restaurants are a cave, and the grocery store... yep, a cave! Some of the volcanic peaks are extremely tall and magnificent.
Every morning hundreds of hot-air balloons take flight over the incredible landscape and gives a birds eye view of an entire city made from naturally occurring resources. There are very few 'buildings' and most of them are more like huts.
I cherish every moment I get to spend with and travel with Rob and Ashley because I never know when they have to up and leave again. I thank them for their service to our country and hope to keep seeing this incredible world together!
