While D.C. may be known for its gridlock (in more ways than one), rows of red bikes scattered throughout the city are providing an active, eco-friendly alternative to its vehicular congestion. As an early pioneer of bike-sharing, the Capital Bikeshare program now services the area with thousands of bikes and hundreds of stations. Combined with a growing web of cycle tracks, lanes, and trails, D.C. is regularly ranked as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country. Explore the diverse District scenes by cruising along its waterfronts, past monuments, through forested parks, and around historic neighborhoods. Find a station and pay by the ride, day, or longer. Just don’t forget to bring a helmet and dock every 30 minutes to avoid additional fees.
