Cycling the Argus
On the second Sunday of every March, Capetonians (and visitors) of all ages and ability levels partake in the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour. The 109km route loops from the city center, down south to the Cape Peninsula, then traces the Atlantic side of Table Mountain National Park, finishing back in the city at Green Point Stadium. As many as 35,000 cyclists show up to compete, however, if you don't reach certain checkpoints at certain times, you won't qualify to continue. The spirit of the event is rather lighthearted though, and many participants wear costumes. If you're an avid cyclist looking for a unique challenge and a complete tour of the Cape Peninsula... this race is for you.
