Patagonian Crested Duck

Patagonian Crested Duck

A native of South America, the Patagonian crested duck can be spotted by its mottled breast, distinctive low crest and the dark mask around its eyes. In its ducklike way, it prefers an aquatic environment; it’s found in the lakes, bays and fjords of southern Chile and Argentina, where it feeds on invertebrates and marine algae.
