Austral Thrush

Among the birds that can be spotted around Cape Horn is the Austral thrush, which measures only 26 centimeters (10 inches) long. Its delicate markings include buff-colored feathers on the breast; a black head, neck and wings; a dark brown upper body; and a streaked throat. The beak and legs are a distinctive yellow. The most southerly-ranging of any thrush, the Austral thrush frequents flatlands rather than alpine slopes, which means it can be found in orchards, gardens and other low-lying agricultural areas.
