Climbing the War Towers in Cape Henlopen
We started coming to Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware when I was a child. Every year I look forward to visiting the towers left behind from World War II at Fort Miles. It's worth the climb to the top of the tower to look out at the ocean in the distance, the trees below and the many messages written by visitors in pine cones on the sand below. The park is full of beautiful trails running through the old barracks and past the bunkers buried in the hills. Grab a campsite and head over to the nature center to rent one of the free bikes and explore the park to see beautiful artifacts.
