Ornithologists' Dream Float
On the Canadian River, you’ll find tubing so easy you can peer through binoculars to spot wildlife on the 22 miles between US 83 and Texas Highway 70. Khaki-colored grassland and limestone mesa mark the terrain, which attracts duck hunters in season. Family friendly, this river ride lasts just a bit over an hour. After you finish, head into the town of Canadian, once a railroad mecca, and the site of one of Texas’s first rodeos. Celebrate your successes with some real cowboys at The Cattle Exchange, located downtown in an historic building. A meeting place for cattle buyers, the restaurant gets kudos for their mesquite-grilled steaks and a satisfying bread pudding.
