Hike the Back of a Camel

Camelback Mountain is one of the first hikes active Phoenicians and tourists alike head out to master. That being said it can get pretty crowded on the weekends which can make parking a nightmare. Best bet is to arrive early (around 6:00am) or to take on the hike on a weekday. The hike is an absolute stunner. From peak to peak it offers some of the most impressive views of the Phoenix metro area there is. But to take advantage of the jaw-dropping views you have to tackle the beast of the camel. It’s considered an urban hike but if you don’t come prepared (i.e. plenty of water, reliable shoes, sunscreen and a hat) it can be a challenging hike. The trails aren’t all that long, but they sure are steep. The burn in the muscles is worth the end result. Incredible views. Panoramic views at the top of the peak. Beautiful scenery. And a sense of pride that you’ve reached the top. High five! Note: Right now the Echo Canyon Trail head is closed for renovation until fall. There are still more than 180 miles of trails in Phoenix for hiking until the restoration is completed.

Hiking In The Heart Of The Valley

If you’re an outdoor fanatic, Arizona offers so many opportunities to get out and hike. You don’t have to go far for a great view of the Phoenix valley. Camelback Mountain is centrally located for everyone coming from Tempe, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and downtown Phoenix. Trailheads are accessible from Tatum Blvd and McDonald on the north side, or 64th St and Cholla Ln on the east side of the mountain. Parking can be very tricky as this mountain is very popular among visitors as well as locals. Try to get there as early as possible. If you don’t find a spot in the parking lot, street parking is also free but it’ll be a walk just to get to the trailhead. Although it’s one of the most challenging hikes you’ll find, the views from the top are incredible. Pack a snack, take your time, and enjoy the view.

Go for some peace of mind or adventure. Just drive and drive if you like. Great experience.
