Callejón de Hamel

Havana, Cuba

Visitors interested in Afro-Cuban music, dance, and culture inevitably find their way to Callejón de Hamel, an alley in the Centro Habana neighborhood whose colorful paintings and mosaics make it easy to locate. Each Sunday at noon, locals gather here to play music and dance, as well as display art they have created. Music and dance are the focus here only on Sundays, but the Callejón can be visited any day of the week. Inevitably, a local will want to tell you about the murals and their fascinating history.
