Quinta Schmoll is a botanical garden that has more than 4, 000 types of cactus plants. It was established in the early 1920s in the town of Cadereyta and it has become one of the main tourist attractions of the region. Be sure to dine in its restaurant, Quinta Wagner, and order a nopal en penca. A cactus stalk is filled with chorizo, beef, bacon, nopales and chile. It is then thrown over burning wood. Nopal en penca is an example of authentic semi-desert cuisine.
