A proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site, the pedestrian Calle Baquedano anchors Iquique’s historic center and is lined with homes constructed of Douglas fir that reflect an eclectic range of styles, from Georgian to Greek Revival. At night, the main square, Arturo Prat, and its all-white Moorish clock tower and handsome 1890 opera-house-turned-municipal-theater are brightly illuminated. The old customs house has been repurposed as a naval museum, while the old courthouse is today a museum displaying pre-Columbian mummies.
