California Lighthouse
Standing 98 feet tall, this double-lens, stone lighthouse offers the best vistas of this section of Aruba. The country’s highest point and marquee island landmark, which was designed by French architect, was constructed from 1914 to 1916 on an octagonal base. Adjacent is a favorite Italian restaurant and an area called California White Sand Dunes, a hot spot for dune surfing. The lantern is named for the British steamship S.S. California that, prior to construction of the light, crashed in the waters near the site in 1891. The wreck is a fantastic dive site.
