San Francisco's Museums
San Francisco’s museums bring in some of the finest exhibitions in the world. They also offer something a little extra to the in-the-know visitor. Friday Nights at the de Young feature performances, artist demonstrations, hands-on art activities, and exhibition tours. Just across the park is the Renzo Piano-designed California Academy of Sciences with its impressive natural exhibits and the famous “NightLife at the Academy” events on Thursday nights (shown). The area near Third and Mission streets is a burgeoning arts district, with several museums and a roster of nightly events within a five-minute walk: the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the Cartoon Art Museum, and the Museum of the African Diaspora.
