I've had a love affair with Maya culture and the amazing ruins in the jungles from Mexico down to Honduras for most of my adult life. I've been fortunate enough to have spent much time working and traveling among many sites. every chance I get I seek out the obscure, less frequented sites to feel like the sacred site was still bustling. Cahal Pech is one of those gems just outside San Ignacio in central Belize. the site is small and much of it still covered with jungle and dirt. the stones scream history and can feel the ancient earth around them. this site has many beautiful buildings and passageways with arches. the Maya flourished from 1200bc to 900 ad 250-900 AD was known as the classic period, where many cultural achievements were made in astronomy, building, math and the concept of zero. magical to walk in these sites surrounded by jungle. 2 hour trip from Belize city airport to town of San Ignacio. plenty of hotels and amenities to make this your base for visits to Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, El Pilar and more if you're loving Maya ruins like me!!
