Cafe Santorini isn't off the beaten path, or a hole-in-the-wall restaurant like my title makes it seem—it's a well-known Mediterranean restaurant in Old Pasadena. However, the fact that it is off the main drag (through a tiny door and up a narrow staircase) makes it seem like you're finding a hidden treasure. Another thing that made this restaurant stand out was that Old Pasadena is full of trendy chain restaurants, and, being from Santa Monica, I was eager to eat somewhere other than Umami Burger or Intelligentsia.
Side note: Nothing against those fabulous establishments, I could eat an Umami Burger for breakfast lunch and dinner. I was just looking for something unique to Pasadena. You get it.
But it wasn't even this that made me want to feature it on AFAR. It was the adorable patio, the top-of-the-line service, and the delicious menu that made me feel like I had become a fabulous European socialite, who was dining at the best restaurant in Santorini. Now who doesn't want to feel that way?
