Family-owned Cafe Reichard has been a Cologne institution since the 19th century, and boasts a prime location in front of the Cologne Cathedral (Dom), Germany's most-visited tourist attraction. It's a big place, with several indoor rooms and plenty of outdoor seating for nice weather. Guests are met at the entrance by cases filled with temptation--cakes, truffles, pralines, and shelves of bagged chocolates.
This is a venerable place for people-watching while enjoying a tasty cake and coffee or tea--or, as in my case, a light luncheon from the salad bar (which offers optional main-course items as well as salad, and is priced by weight). Given its size and location, Cafe Reichard is impressively service-oriented. My order for a pot of tea was taken as soon as I was seated, and service at the luncheon buffet was friendly and efficient.
Cafe Reichard is ideal for a rest stop while touring the many attractions in this central neighborhood!
