Antigua is one of the few Latin American cities where it's possible to really find extraordinary coffee: roasted and prepared to specialty standards, but with an intuitive knowledge of origin and varietal that only comes with living in a place where amazing coffee grows on every other hillside. Cafe Estudio is my favorite coffee shop here--the owner, Manuel, roasts all coffees on the premises, and pulls amazing shots on an old fully-manual Faema espresso machine. If you make it in, ask for a pour-over of whatever he has in that's most exciting, then sit and savor the coffee as it cools and opens up new flavors. The Acatenango Geisha I have before me tastes like Irish Breakfast tea.
