One of the most important collections of Byzantine art in the world, this haunting museum contains over 30,000 artifacts from the 3rd to the 20th century. Ethereal icons, frescoes and mosaics, exquisitely carved tombstones and embroidered ecclesiastical robes are all brilliantly displayed in a series of dimly lit, underground galleries. Surprisingly under the radar, it’s a meditative, almost mystical experience.
