Burning of Zozobra

Burning Zozobra: Goodbye to Old Man Gloom
The annual "burning of Zozobra" kicks off Fiesta season in Santa Fe. The fifty-foot marionette is stuffed with court records, divorce papers, paid-off mortgages and other reminders of trouble and grief, and then is set afire and burned to the accompaniment of fireworks and music. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as the band plays for about two hours before the main event. Stay away if you can't deal with crowds!
