Burj Khalifa

1 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd - Downtown Dubai - Dubai - United Arab Emirates

Two architectural wonders helped put Dubai on the map: the Burj Al Arab hotel, which resembles the sail of a ship out on the gulf waters, and the Palm Jumeirah, a residential development on a manmade archipelago that fans out in the shape of a huge palm tree. But in 2010, the sleek Burj Khalifa stole their thunder. Now the world’s tallest structure, the tower soars 830 meters (2,722 feet) into the sky. Visitors can zoom by elevator up to the 124th floor to experience incredible views and explore interactive displays on Dubai’s history and the tale behind the building of this futuristic marvel. Another observation deck is even higher, on the 148th floor.

High & Mighty

At 838 meters (2,716.5 feet), the Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building in the world. Towering over the city, the shadow of Dubai’s iconic building stretches across the city, reaching almost to the coast. This latter day Tower of Babel – so dubbed because of the cacophony of world languages heard while visiting - boasts a host of world records: highest number of stories, highest occupied floor, highest outdoor observation deck, and elevators that travel the longest distance. Make reservations for the observation deck well in advance, so that you can take your time looking out across the cityscape: less skyscrapers, the “palm” that spreads into the Arabian Gulf, and the vast sandy desert just outside the city’s ever-widening boundaries. It’s been said that on a clear day, you can even see all the way to Iran. On your way out, take the time to read about the construction of the building: the logistics almost defy comprehension.

Stunning Views and Shisha

There’s a lot to see in Dubai, a lot of shopping malls and shisha cafes. However, the Burj Khalifa is an amazing architectural creation that offers 360-degree views of this surreal civilization in the desert. Located on the 124th level of what is currently the world’s tallest building, “At The Top"—the Burj Khalifa’s observation deck—is a must-do while in Dubai. Make sure you make a reservation before you arrive and set aside some time to explore!

At the Top

High up on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa sits one of the worlds most spectacular observation decks. On a clear day you can see across the Persian Sea to Iran. But even on a dusty day like this, the city of Dubai itself is a stunning sight from the worlds tallest building.

going high

Drinks at Atmosphere in Dubai

Having birthday drinks with our Syrian birthday boy in the world’s tallest bar, Atmosphere on the 122 floor of the magnificent Bourj Khalifa. The drinks and view was spectacular. Since the drinks aren’t cheap, make sure to get reservations to catch the sunset at this world renowned destination.

High End Dining

High end dining was not invented in Dubai but it certainly has been perfected here. With a view of the dancing Dubai Fountain at the Burj Khalifa and the lights of downtown glittering in the background, Giorgio Armani has taken branding to new heights with his signature hotel and stylized version of fine, Indian cuisine at Amal’s - voted best Indian food in town. At The One & Only Palm, get schooled and moor the yacht at their seaside 101 Dining Lounge & Bar on the Jumeriah Palm where Spanish Tapas will serenade your taste buds with a savory melody. At Al Muntaha, dine inside another Dubai icon, the Burj Al Arab. Overlooking the Persian Gulf on the 27th floor, their perfectly prepared wagyu beef makes the bill that much more palpable.

Taking in the View from the Top of the World

It’s hard to imagine any view more breathtaking than that from the top of the Burj Khalifa. You’ll first take flight—at the rate of 32 feet per second—in the high-speed elevators that soar up the tallest building in the world. From the At the Top observation deck on the 124th floor you can take in 360-degree views of the city and the sea. Not only will you soar high above the city’s rooftops, but you can travel through time as well. Interactive telescopes let you look into the past and the future of the city, with screens that have virtual representations of the city as it once was and will be. After you are done taking in the views, you can return to earth and drop by the nearby Dubai Mall for some shopping. burjkhalifa.ae

Visiting the Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest building.

The Burj Khalifa is the worlds tallest building, standing at 828 meters is not only impressive from the top, but it’s also interesting to see from the ground. Dubai is a city designed for aesthetics, and there are many places one can see this tower that are truly remarkable. The most popular spot to snap a picture of the tower is just outside the Dubai Mall next to the Burj Khalifa Lake fountain (the world’s largest choreographed fountain system). Going up the Burj Khalifa requires buying a ticket in advance. The ticket office is located in the Dubai Mall on the ground floor. There are several ticket options available, At The Top viewing area, Sky Ticket, and a special VIP ticket. The tickets are not cheap (anywhere between 125 AED to 500 AED), prices vary depending on how high you want to go, if you want to wait in lines, and what time of day you’re going. If you’re on a budget and can’t miss going up, the At The Top viewing area still offers a great view, and is well worth it. If you’re looking for a great view of Dubai the Burj Khalifa is one of the best. Keep a few things in mind before you shell out the big bucks, most of the viewing areas are surrounded in glass and there are some pretty harsh reflections, so at a few angles you won’t get the greatest photos.Dubai is also a very spread out, so many of the other famous landmarks are actually very far away. Finally it’s a very popular place to visit, so expect crowds and expect tickets to sell out quickly.

Burj Khalifa Perspective

From 124 floors in the air, I had the impression that the world is made of the 1990’s toy, Micro Machines - and that is not even as high as you can go in the Burj Khalifa. Looking down from a place so high gives pause to reflect on that tiny part of the world that a single person occupies. The view from the Burj Khalifa also sheds perspective on the massive building and development projects that Dubai has seen along the Sheikh Zayed Road since the 1960’s. An impressive string of buildings and towers that represent some of the world’s most creative and innovative architecture flank the corridor like a pearls plucked out of the adjacent Arabian Gulf. But, back to the Burj Khalifa tower that stands 828 meters tall - the tallest in the world with more than 160 floors. The 148th floor is the highest observation floor open to the paying public; though the 124th is fairly popular with an outdoor deck attached to the gift shop and indoor (air conditioned) viewing area. The route to the lifts tells the impressive story of constructing the enormous structure through hallways of photos, dynamic graphics, and historical displays. The base, built into the Dubai Mall enables guests to enjoy the heightened experience “At the Top” while shopping, dining, and enjoying the equally impressive fountain show.
