Bua Tong WaterfallsClimbing waterfalls in Thailand (or anywhere else for that matter) is not generally held to be the safest pursuit—especially for amateurs. At Bua Tong, however, even the clumsiest flip-flop-wearing traveler can scale the heights of the falls. Known as "the sticky waterfall," Bua Tong gets its name from adhesive quality of its rocks, which are pitted and rough from mineral deposits. Located about an hour and a half north of Chiang Mai, Bua Tong is off the beaten track in the spectacular countryside of the north. Most visitors descend to the bottom of the falls first before turning and making their way back up. There are also steps to the side of the cascade for those who want to keep their feet dry.
