Bringing Flat Whites to Istanbul
Turkey has a long tradition of coffee and tea drinking (the former is now generally consumed as a post-meal digestif, whereas the latter is drank in abundance, all day and night), and now the artisanal, third-wave coffee house trend has arrived. Brew Coffeeworks in Eminonu in the Old City was one of the first to bring in all of the latest brewing techniques and barista culture (including pour-over, siphon, and cold-brew), along with high-quality beans roasted in-house. It also has a distinctive European design and decor with high ceilings, chandeliers and marble walls. The coffeeshop is a short walk from the Spice Market and the tourist-heavy areas of Sultanahmet and the Grand Bazaar.
