Bringing Flat Whites to IstanbulTurkey has a long tradition of coffee and tea drinking (the former is now generally consumed as a post-meal digestif, whereas the latter is drunk in abundance, all day and night), and now the artisanal, third-wave coffeehouse trend has arrived. Brew Coffeeworks, in Eminönü in the Old City, was one of the first to bring in all of the latest brewing techniques and barista culture (including pour-over, siphon, and cold-brew), along with high-quality beans roasted in-house. It also has a distinctive European design and decor, with high ceilings, chandeliers, and marble walls. The coffee shop is a short walk from the Spice Market and the tourist-heavy areas of Sultanahmet and the Grand Bazaar.
