Breckenridge

Tucked in against Colorado’s Ten Mile Mountain Range in the Arapahoe National Forest, Breckenridge was originally a mining town before skiing took over. It was founded in 1859 and incorporated in 1880—the latter half of the Victorian era. Much of the influence of that time still shows at the core of what was once a bustling mining town for gold. That makes for an entertaining stroll down Main Street where modern shops and tasty eaterys occupy the colorful Victorian buildings in any season. On the mountain, the ski area sports 34 lifts, a free gondola, nearly 3,000 acres of skiable terrain which includes many family friendly and beginner runs, groomed and moguled moderate terrain, as well as steep and deep out of bounds expert zones. There’s also terrain parks and a cruisy run that goes for 3.5 miles.
