I kept hearing about some kind of cool "fountain" in Bordeaux - but didn't really get what was supposed to be so special about it. And the first day I was there it was turned-off due to a special event taking place. So when I first saw it, it just looked like a big, flat, cemented-over area - more a parking lot than a fountain.
It really didn't seem all that promising, and I became consumed in other activities around town. Then one afternoon I just happened to be walking near the Gironde River near the "fountain" when I hear my girlfriend gasp. I turned to see what was going on - and saw what you see in the photo. I gasped too. It was the fountain in full splendor - and trust me - no picture can do it justice; but I hope you get the sense of how stunning a sight it is. It's called le miroir d'eau - and it is one of the most interesting things I've ever seen anywhere.
