A Laotian Cowboy goes to the Dragon Boat Races
Every fall all of Luang Parabang gathers along the banks of the river to witness the boat races that commemorate the holiday of Boun Song Hua. People get really rowdy and eventually parade through the town drunk all night after the races are complete. When you wake up the next morning it looks like that 1980's movie The Day After, with debris and bodies littering the streets. Not at all what one expects from such a normally serene little city.
