Lanna artisanal skills are showcased to delicate effect at Bo Sang. Like nearby San Kamphaeng, which is a production center for cotton, silk, and other handicrafts, Bo Sang is a renowned hub of traditional creativity. The specialty here is the production of paper and bamboo umbrellas and parasols, undertaken in a string of showrooms and workshops scattered around the place. Prices aren’t particularly cheap and you can find similar items in Chiang Mai’s night market, but a visit is worthwhile to watch the umbrella craftsmen do their thing. In late January, the Bo Sang Umbrella Festival features a colorful umbrella procession along the village main street.
