Bluebonnets are the beloved state flower of Texas and in nearly every Texan’s home or photo album, you’ll see a family portrait set in a field of blue. While bluebonnets are protected and cannot be picked, you can head to Ennis for its yearly Bluebonnet Festival in the month of April, where you’ll get to take in the views of the rolling blue hills and flowers, and then pluck some other fresh items at the Ennis Farmers’ Market. The Farmer’s Market runs from April to October, and supports local farmers and growers in the Hill Country area. There is live music, and over 500 vendors come out to sell their fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, nuts and local honey. Located in historic and charming downtown Ennis, the market also offers cooking demonstrations and other all-day fun.
