Birthplace of the delicious, world famous Blue Mountain Coffee, Jamaica’s longest mountain range is a treat for all those who long to see nature at its best. A world apart from neighboring bustling, noisy Kingston and even the rest of Jamaica, you’ll find yourself at 7,400 feet above sea level, where the air is cool, the views magnificent with villages and falls across the mountains—and yes, the peaks look blue. The winding, narrow roads—occasionally nerve wracking—add to the overall mystic feel of the place. There are a handful of mountain lodges and cabins for overnight stays—including the prestigious Strawberry Hill—highly recommended to fully enjoy this region and complete the famous sunrise summit hike. The first time I visited the Blue Mountains, on a day trip, I was stunned by the beauty and serenity. Just one tip: be sure to take altitude sickness medicine or remedy along with you, should you need it.
