The review: Built in 1990, this intimate boutique hotel sits on a harbor bluff, rolling out fabulous Pacific views from almost every window. Be prepared for classic seaside elegance, from the louvered windows to wicker furniture and subtle nautical motifs like seashell-screened pillows and white-and-turquoise armchairs.
Each of the Blue Lantern Inn’s 29 guest rooms has a jetted tub and sitting area, complete with a marble-encased fireplace. Other grace notes include free soft drinks, in-room Keurigs and high-speed internet. For the best view, plump for #301 on highest floor. It comes with truffles, a bottle of sparkling wine and a telescope to hopefully catch the whale migrations (greys from November to April and blues from May to November).
Never one to nickel and dime guests, the property also loans out bicycles and doesn’t charge for the gym or on-site parking. It also hosts an exceptional wine reception each afternoon with savory hors d’oeuvres like asparagus spears and stuffed mushrooms wrapped with prosciutto. And for those with a sweeter tooth, the inn puts complimentary fresh-baked cookies in the sun room at 3pm daily! Breakfast also wows travelers with delicacies like artichoke quiche and honey-buttermilk muffins.
The Blue Lantern Inn welcomes guests with disabilities and has accessible rooms (#208 for a harbor view and #211 to overlook the city). Expect wheelchair-friendly doors and furnishings, along with grab bars, doorbell strobes and a flashing light when the phone rings.
