Lowertown Community Hub
Black Dog Cafe is the cultural epicenter of Lowertown in Saint Paul. Kudos to this wonderful place for ambitious programming in music and the arts. Some of the most respected twin cities musicians stop by regularly to play gigs. Music ranges from jazz to world to flamenco and blues. The wall space is dedicated to rotating art shows and provides a great alternative for artists who live in the adjacent residential arts co-op. Monthly artist happy hours and a community drawing circle are examples of other ways the proprietors are supporting the local arts scene. Homemade and healthy fare is on the menu, as well as a nice offering of wine and beer. Outdoor sidewalk seating overlooks the new light rail station. A baseball park for the Saint Paul Saints will soon undergo construction down the block—all part of a vision that has been nurtured by the wonderful folks who committed to Lowertown a long time ago.
