Fun and food in Amarillo Texas
The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo Texas is just way too much fun. Live music, a labyrinth maze out back, locally made beer that is very good, flash fried jalapenos, and delicious aged steaks, what else could a guy want ? And if you dare, you can try the 72 ounce steak challenge that consists of finishing this monster in less than 60 minutes and it’s free. Now I know what you’re thinking, but you’d be wrong. I went for a petit filet mignon that was cooked perfectly and it was tender and delicious. The Big Texan is purposely over the top, after all this is Texas, but I have to admit that my party and I had a really good time. Just wandering and exploring the old school arcades, the candy/fudge counter and getting lost in the maze, I really worked up an appetite, and totally enjoyed my margarita spiked with a jalapeno. If you really want to pull out all of the stops, the Big Texan can provide you with transportation in a classic Cadillac adorned with what else ? A pair of Texas longhorn horns as the hood ornament. If you so choose, lodging is also available on the grounds. Their website also has a link to a live camera so you can view the action in the dining room live. When you find yourself in Amarillo Texas, you owe it to yourself to visit The Big Texan, it really is one of those road trip experiences that you’ll take with you and remember it with a big grin on your face. Did I mention those flash fried jalapenos ?
