Museum of Many Missions: From Coca-Cola to the Bible

The Biedenharn Museum & Gardens highlights the success, collections, formal garden and home of Joseph Bidenharn, the first bottler of Coca-Cola and his daughter Emy-Lou.

Rooms inside the Biedenharn's home reflect Emy-Lou's eclectic taste and appear as if they are still being lived in today. Inspired by an 1848 facsimile of the Wycliffe Bible, Emy-Lou - who had a career as a European singer - began a collection of Bibles. Many rare and important editions are on display such as an 1611 King James Bible, art Bibles and a page from the 1454-55 Gutenberg Bible.

Outside the home, thousands of plants bloom throughout the English garden developed by Emy-Lou upon her return from England. Broken into themes, the most memorable spot is the Wagnerian Fountain inside the Ballet Lawn.

The Biedenharn's story began when Emy-Lou's father, "Mr. Joe", began bottling Coca-Cola. Today the museum features a replica soda fountain. While there, be sure to see a demonstration of the original bottling process and purchase a bottle of Coca-Cola from an original five-cent soda vending machine.
