Fish Amok - A National Dish
Part of understanding a culture is eating their food. Fish Amok is a traditional Cambodian dish - a fresh water fish is steamed in banana leaves with a sauce made from coconut milk, chilies, garlic, lime, turmeric, lemongrass and the chef's secret ingredients. I tried this dish in three restaurants but absolutely the best fish Amok in Cambodia is the one you learn to make in the Beyond Unique cooking class. The chef taught us two other dishes as well, green papaya salad and sticky rice with mango, both delicious!
