While touring Bern I stumbled upon the KindliFresser, or "Child Eater", Fountain right in the middle of busy Kornhausplatz. Bern is famous for it's many 16th century fountains, but I hadn't been prepared for one this creepy. The villain is eating one child, and has several more tucked away in his belt for later snacking. The fountain was created in the 1540's, and has likely been used by parents to scare kids into obedience for centuries. Exploring Bern, my favorite city in Switzerland, is full of fascinating discoveries like this one.
Though Switzerland surprisingly has an excellent selection of wines, my favorite drink is available all over - water.
Fountains in cities such as Bern and Zurich provide clean drinking water, typically with an interesting design or statue involved. In smaller towns or in the country, you can find small troughs with a faucet providing you with clean, Alpine water.
