Allow at least half a day to explore the diverse collections of Bergen’s vast art museum, spread over four buildings next to the city lake. If time is tight, note that building four hosts the collection’s core, including works from Diego Rivera, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso. Building three hosts mostly Norwegian art, while a new exhibition in revamped building one showcases the work of Queen Sonja of Norway. The museum is also home to two of Bergen’s best eateries. Smakverket café is perfect for a quick lunch, and Lysverket composes its popular new Nordic menu with ingredients from the region's fjords and mountains.
