-Signature Bill Bensley design
-Private boats for sailing through the estuaries
A three-hour ride from the Cambodian capital of Phenom Penh brings you to a land of rich biodiversity and blissful seclusion. Officially designated a National Park in 2016, the Southern Cardamom forest connects to six other parks and sanctuaries, which together make-up nearly 4.5 million acres of protected land where flora, fauna, and wildlife—including engendered species like the Asian elephant and Indochinese tiger—can thrive. It’s in this special environment that renowned designer / hotelier Bill Bensley opened Shinta Mani Wild, a 15-tent hideaway that—like all Bensley hotels—was crafted with sustainability and conservation at its core. Developed with input from regional environmental and wildlife agencies to ensure the least possible impact on the environment, the mini-resort’s well-appointed luxury tents have been designed to evoke glamorous expeditions of yore (think Jackie O first visiting Cambodia in the 1960’s), and have been placed high in the treetops so as not to interfere with elephant trails along the rivers and waterfalls. Perched on the edge of the highest waterfall, the Landing Zone Bar and Waterfall restaurant are a central hub for mingling with other guests and savoring drinks and eats made with ingredients foraged in the region, while the Khmer Tonics Spa celebrates local herbs and healing traditions in its treatments. Activities include wildlife-spotting at the resort itself, or boarding on of the Bensley-designed expedition boats to sail along wild estuaries and learn from rangers and researchers.
