For such a small town, San Miguel boasts a rich palette of striking, high-end boutique hotels. Chief among them is the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, a 67-room property with the feel of a luxury resort in grand, recreated Spanish-colonial architecture. Young professionals from Mexico City flock to the Hotel Matilda—whose owner is American—or the newly built L’Otel, whose owners hail from Mexico City. Dos Casas Boutique Hotel offers a vista from the kissing bridge called La Quebrada. And the Grande Dame of them all—the city’s first, but still relatively new—is the Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada (pictured here) in the historic heart of the Centro. Even if you stay elsewhere, be sure to indulge in their exquisite restaurants, spas, and bars.
