Bei Oma KleinmannThe name of this restaurant (at Grandma Kleinmann's in English) gives a hint as to its popularity. Just like a German ‘Oma’s’ home, it’s welcoming and cozy, family-owned—and family-friendly—and serves up generous portions of hearty German cuisine. Formerly run by the real Frau Kleinmann, who was cooking here until the age of 95 (she retired in 2009), the restaurant has continued her legacy with an unchanged, modest interior—small wooden tables, a simple bar, graffitied walls—and a menu of schnitzels (pork, veal, even vegetarian) plus traditional dishes like roast goose, all served with home-made sauces and seasonal vegetables like asparagus and chanterelle mushrooms. Service is famously warm and there are also seats outside in summer. Needless to say, it’s best to make a reservation a few days before, although you can always wait at the bar with a Kölsch (local beer) and wait for a table to come free.
