Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Theatre

Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Theatre
Opened in 1952, this theater, named for 19th-century Georgian poet, writer and activist Ilia Chavchavadze, is the oldest in the entire Ajaria region of Georgia. From the street, its towering columns and majestic facade are hard to miss, but the intimate scale of the auditorium inside makes performances—which range from comedy to tragedy, dance to children’s plays—unusually accessible.
