Take in spectacular views of Cartagena Bay and the peaks of the Sierra de la Muela from the ramparts of this military stronghold. Built in the 1930s to resemble a medieval fortress, with rocky turrets and huge cannons, the battery has a complicated labyrinth of dependencies and machinery rooms inside. Also known as C-1, Castillitos was first conceived as part of a 1926 plan of coastal defenses by Prime Minister Primo de Rivera and would play a crucial role during the Spanish Civil War.
