Barrys Bay Traditional Cheese
Barrys Bay has been making cheese by hand since 1895, and while the current factory is from the 1950s, not much else has changed since the original cheddars were produced. Cheese making season runs from about October to May, as the milk used comes from local cows that "dry off" in winter. Watch the cheese makers at the Barrys Bay factory near Akaroa. Taste (and buy) from the current range of blue, cheddar, Havarti and more depending on the season.
